Vibia Sabina (AD83-137) was the wife of the Roman Emperor, Hadrian

Vibia Sabina (AD83-137) was the wife of the Roman Emperor, Hadrian, marrying him in AD100. She was the great niece of the Emperor Trajan. Like Hadrian (who was her second cousin once removed), she was raised in Trajan's household & she continued to live an independent life after marriage.
She was born on August 13th, AD83. She accompanied Hadrian in his campaigns and travels and she received more public honours than any other empress since the first empress Livia (wife of Augustus). In AD128 she was awarded the title of Augusta. Notably, she was the first empress to appear on continuous series of coins. Hadrian and Sabina had no children. Sabina passed away in AD136/37, aged 53 or 54.
While Hadrian preferred the company of his lover Antinoo, it has been suggested that Sabina may have been just as close to her companion and accomplished poet, Julia Balbilla, who tenderly described her in a series of epigrams as "beautiful" and "lovely."
